FootGolf Frequently Asked Questions

What is FootGolf?2024-07-08T23:02:51-04:00

It is a relatively new sport that is a mix of both know sports football (soccer) and golf. Most of the rules have been adapted from golf, but it is played by kicking a ball into a larger hole on the similar or exactly the same field as golf. This game has been attracting players with past experience of football and golf. The popularity is growing from what thought to be a fun casual game to international championships, private clubs and sponsorships. Follow our social media to find out more about this sport or join our club.

Major organizations such as AFGL require players to be licensed by home country authority. Afterwards you can register on their website ahead of time paying by credit card.

There are private events that are not part of major organizations. They do not require any licensing and can be registered with a online sign up, filling in the form, sending details and etransfer to organizers or simply coming to the location and doing all of the above there. This depends on how organizers set up an event.

What are the rules for FootGolf?2024-07-08T23:08:01-04:00

The rules of FootGolf are similar to golf and on the same filed each player need to bring a ball into a hole with fewer touches. The course has 9-18 holes and who gets lower combined score wins. There are penalties throughout the course that can add to your score by 1 or 2 points. This can be to improper ball positioning, hitting the water, getting ball stuck on a tree or in bushes, hitting the ball out of field boundaries or other.

Exact rules are posted on each major tournament specific to the field the game is played on and organization hosting the event.

Can we rent a cart to travel around the course?2024-07-08T23:53:47-04:00

Most of the FootGolf courses offer carts for rent to travel along as you play 9-18 holes. Cost is set up by the course owners and it typically ranges from $10 to $50 per session or day. During the tournament, host arranges 1-2 carts per group (4 people) and additional carts can be rented if available. During the tournament players use carts for travel and to carry their bags with water, snacks and extra equipment, while on a fun day of training players only use carts to go from hole to hole, and some prefer to walk.

FootGolf is played on regular course and typically follows the rules. Most courses are built to have 18 holes but can have different distance and complexity. Each hole is measured by distance or amount of kicks it takes to finish. While smallest holes are 75-90 meters and should be completed in 2-3 kick, the longest may be as far as 300 meters and take 5-6 kicks to get in the hole. Sometimes half of game is played – 9 holes.

Can i install practice cups in my backyard to play?2024-07-09T22:28:19-04:00

That is a great idea to practice short distance shots. In fact several of Ontario FootGolf Club members have already installed cups on their backyards and casually play when enjoying the sun and outdoor weather after work. Unfortunately many of us dont have the luxury large green space behind the house and only can play footgolf in limited space. For full day practice – follow to our courses page and find the course near you to play with friends or come with us.
